Good GOD. Hat-Trick !!

Alt love!

So I'm hanging out on a Friday night with some friends and a shadow priest buddy of mine is leading Team 3 thru Karazan. Team 3? Yea. Some guilds run 3 to 4 teams of 10 and even include an out-of-guild guest run for alts and friends of the guild.

T3 says they have a spot and they'll take a hunter cause their regular hunter is absent. Cool. I have a dozen badges on 3 toons and want like 300 for each of them. To date, that makes about 87 weeks of constant Badge grinding to get there.

I bring my hunter in to fill a spot for Attunemen. Then a hunter logs on and they ask if I would bring in an alt, so I bring my priest in. Well, this is a first. We have 2 holy priests, 1 shadow priest, and now one Disc / Holy priest. So we go thru Kara in healer / DPS mode. They have alot of DPS and alot of healing. I'm just being a 5th wheel.

Nightbane coughs up the 2H staff. We cruised thru Curator with no T4 gloves and Aran died with Zero Casualties and no caster loot. I picked up the Pope Hat off the Chess event and the prince starts acting like a ROYAL pain. On the 3rd try... ( 2nd try ended at 1 Percent !!!! ) He goes down.

If you haven't had a raid boss fail to die at 1%, it's an altogether NEW kind of hell. You go over the fight and think of what ONE thing you could have cast, shot, hit him with that would have killed that slimy bastard. Anyhoo... we were determined to do him and we finally got him deadded. No T4 helm, but the Healing Cape comes my way. Boom, I hit revered and get my upgrade Violet Signet too. Yay 19 Badges for me.

Then, Monday I get drafted into being MT in ZA with my warrior. Yea my RETIRED warrior. I'm more experienced than the other tank, but he's in a Panzthar BP and has a Shield of Impenetrable Darkness. So, the kid has some nice toys. Me? I've seen ZA on Test and with three characters to the third boss. This squad? Ehhh third time in and things went VERY well. We got the Bear boss down on our 4th try. Took a long time, but the Learning curve is steep and they're still gearing up. Plus their two MTs were absent and you just can't PUG this place without dying a couple times to transitions. I got myself 1 Badge + 1 Quest done ( troll tusks finally ) + a 27g repair bill.

Anyhoo, I got to break all three toons out on the same weekend.

I Can't BUY Anymore

Special thanks to Sheryl Crow...

Love that girl. Love her music. Love the lyricists that she writes with. Music makes the heart fly and words make the soul sublime.

Okay. Back to my original posting.

My lock hits 2500 kills and the body count has no limit in sight. What does have an upper limit is the number of tokens you can carry. What? Yea. Winning is getting burdensome. I have a decent staff and it's enchanted. May as well purchase the level 38 blue PvP staff + the level 38 Caster ring + the level 38 Healer cloak + the Lv 38Highlander Boots ( extra run speed FTW ). After all that, I have 35 WSG tokens left and a score of AV tokens.

Warcraft needs to figure out what to do with the hundreds of extra tokens players accumulate over time and have absolutely no use for them. What to do. Turn em in ? Once you have the Epic mount... I bought one. THEN what??

More BGs

Racked up 2000 kills on my lock.

Not a lot by most veteran player standards, but certainly a good number of combat experience considering it's only been 2 weeks.

WSG is certainly 75% Horde favored in the 20-29 bracket.

Arathi Basin 20-29 Horde side.... meh. I'd say more towards 70% for engagements where I don't personally log in and see the Alliance ahead at 1860 to 1100 Horde. When the Alliance are camping graves at the Horde start-point as you log in... you know you're in trouble. On the ones I get to start and help steer, we win a good deal. I've led a couple teams. Moved players and even got to direct offense teams. That was GREAT fun. We ended with a solid 4 cap.

Don't win em all, but the Horde has their act together in the sub 70s BGs.

Heck. The Horde has continued to dominate the PvP side of Warcraft. People play horde because they like the game and care more about objectives than asthetics. The woman that chooses an ugly orc versus a perfect femal Human is more about stats than Appearance. roleplay

First week of BGs

Horde PvP ( Icecrown server ) lv 20-29

We won every match.

WSG 3-0
AB ( Win ) Near the top of the board below a Horde Hunter. We were trading nodes early on, but we kept 3 and pushed the advantage.

WSG 3-0 ALL Three Flag carries and a Flag return by me. I'd like to say I soloed that, but the sheer amount of support the horde players give each other is what made that win a complete landslide. Heals, Shields, blockers, Saps, Fears.... They were a great 10 man squad. I was just in the right place at the right time to swipe and score.

WSG 3-1 Standard Fare. Held a bunch of foes midfield. There's no glory in death... but if you can DOT six guys and run them around in circles for a couple minutes... thats plenty of time to get your flag runner into their base or back home.

WSG 3-1 Had a few notable twinks to face, but we kept them isolated and feared off the Flag runner. Having a priest in your BG increases your odds of winning by 25-45%. Having ANY healer in your raid helps 60%. Not saying you can't win without heals... but why skate uphill?

I was easily the top of the Damage done chart. Topped the Kill / HK list a number of times. And was generally a priority target for the alliance. WHY??

Because I'm a Warlock.

I cause pain and suffering. As much as I can. To as many other players as I can reach.

Eventually, they get tired of dying or getting feared and come after me. At 1400Hp I can't take the beating, but my job is to distract. Getting a kill... sure. Cap the flag and run like a little girl? Sure. But my main goal is to stop the opposing flag runners. Dot the chase team. And FEAR the priests before they get off a heal on their tanks. Even if the fear gets trinketted, I've done my job to interrupt that heal and help my team bring down a peksy warrior or rogue.

Long range pain...

Warlock Levelling 20-30

RIDICULOUSLY EASY!!

From the Ghostlands, I was shuttled over to Ogrimarr / Thunder bluff via the Barrens. Green quests. Easy quest chains for faction. Stonetalon was less than challenging. I hit Ashenvale and did the quests there. Then I returned for some stonetalon quests. The only REAL problem was the protect Fizzle quest in the Venture Company mines. That goblin took forever to mine the "special ore" and there were three waves of 3-4 kobolds to fend off. Fear wasn't a good option as the caves tend to wind around and aggro scores of other kobolds. Dot + Drain Tank + Dot everything else. The pet of choice was the voidwalker with the self-heal and the AOE Torment. Both did nicely to hold the Kobold invaders' attention until I could dot/LifeDrain them down.

Harpies got to be difficult because you were facing 1-4 level 26-28 creatures at once. Some that could hurricane you. Others that were straight melee. The elementals were actually easier. After a few visits to the Thunder Bluff AH, I was decked out nicely. At 27, I started the WSG grind for my Spell Penetration trinket and the blue lv 28 WSG ring.

By 28, I stopped XPing and switched to the PvP grind.

How to win BGs

Leadership.

Call the shots. Talk to your fellow players.

Step 1

Decide wether you're Offense or Defense.

Step 2

Commit to that charge.

The RULES OF WAR

Offense

Offense SOUNDS easy, but people get easily distracted. Too many players see an easy kill midfield or a not-so-easy challenge and rush into the opposing team. HKs do not win WSG. FLAGS DO. Don't get distracted. Push into their base and stay together.

Yell and scream when you're running with their flag. Announce your exit path. Call for cover fire and blockers. 1 stun can mean escape back to your base for a flag cap. With cooperation, even a squishy caster can return a flag. No Haste potion. No Sprint. Just cooperation with your fellow team-mates.

When covering another flag-carrier, use those specials to shake people off his tail. Warlocks... Dot the world. Fear the lead person. Casting fear costs time and will give them a lead, but a well timed cast can send the most powerful "intercept twink" running in the opposite direction giving your carrier a huge boost.

When carrying the flag, try to avoid direct melee. Sure you can rack up a kill, but that flag is more important than a couple honor points.

Defense

Most teams go with either ZERO Defense or 3 defenders with the flag.

Personally, using zero defense only works when people have a VERY strong midfield squad that cooperates well and can absolutely kill the opposite team's flag runner. Often-times the un-guarded flag is an easy point. People worry about testing their powers against an enemy player. That guy is a distraction. By the time they see the carrier run across, it's too late to stop him.

Three man Defense is MUCH smarter, IMHO. Send seven people out to KILL that flag team and bring it back. The three remainders can hold their own long enough.

Having more than three on D also hurts you. If you're expecting a zerg rush at your flag, keep extra on hand for defense. Wiping out your opposing force can leave their home flag free to be captured. Shift half the team into Offense and go rush their empty base. Otherwise, keeping more than 3 on Defense means your kill / capture team only has five or less players. That crushes their chances unless it's a stealth-heavy squad.

If you have the enemy flag and you're waiting for your killers to find the enemy and pry that flag from his hands, watch text closely. Watch for the Opposing team's gank squad. KEEP your flag carrier alive at all costs. I've been very very weak on a team ( as a level 19 un-twinked warlock you'll need a buddy or two) and kept the flag long enough to CAP.

Rant on Rogues.

Rogues are GREAT. They hurt people. They can stun a runner. They can stealth and capture a flag. The ones I don't like are opposing rogues ( natch ), and rogues that don't break stealth to help you out. I've barely lost a fight 1 on 1 with my warlock and saw two other rogues hang out in stealth and get the easy kill after I've died grinding a warrior to almost zero by myself. WTF! Break stealth. Get in there, ya cowards! Gouge a flag defender = Win the game. Rogues are great killers, but in WSG their real power is stealth, Sap, cheap shot, and gouge.

Level 19 BG Twinks

There are twinks and there are TWINKS.

Buying a few level 19 Stamina/Eagle items for a battleground is called preparation.

Yesterday I faced a level 19 Rogue twink with 1900+ hp, two blue weapons enchanted with Fire, and this girl was hitting like a TRUCK. Single shots for 223. No way can an average character stand up to that magnitude of hurt. It took three to four of us to bring this single rogue down. She didn't bother to stealth. She didn't have to.

There were a few other characters in the BG that were armed to the teeth. I saw a horde player with a Crusader enchant. I also saw a rogue on our side with a Clefthide armor kit. +40 Armor +12 Agi to Leg. AH cost around 90 gold. Plus your weapon enchants. Plus your cloak, boot, glove enchants. Plus the cost of the blues and having level 70 characters walk you through instances for blue drops. Final price? 950g invested in a level 19 twink.

OMFG!

If a thousand gold is the price for utter domination of a battleground with a super-powered twink, then count me out. Icecrown is a second server and I just don't have a thousand gold to spare. The others I'm facing have triple my HP. They have incredible crit rates and hit for several hundred damage. Frankly, I think they've overpaid for that privilege.

I'm decently geared in my greens and one blue. I'm no demigod but I hold my own. it'll take a couple days to collect my 20 tokens, buy my pvp reward item, and move onto level 20. Soon I'll have that Succubus pet, a host of new powers, and more PvE domination.

Ganking people doesn't make me all foamy at the mouth when I know I just paid gold to get a better toon. PvP keeps a player sharp, but WSG is a rough place to be slugging it out with the all-stars. Me? I'll stick to good tactics and cooperation to win the game.

Tactics & Cooperation. Teamspeak is a HUGE plus. Against superior foes, a clever team and a good leader can get you victory. Alliance teams seem to be immune to this kind of help and still manage to self-destruct in WSG. No idea why. Still, with teamspeak and a half dozen guildies... I can promise you a good time and some hard-fought battles.

Newbie Trade skills

Hello. My name is Bob.... and I'm an obsessive Miner.

( Group ) "Hi Bob"

( Group ) "Welcome to Miner's Anonymous."

On most servers, I take mining and skinning. Then Herbalism and Alchemy.

Mining makes money. The market for rough stone is horrible, but Everyone needs copper.

Engineers + Blacksmiths + Jewelcrafters. All hungry for copper.

The REAL trick is how to work the Auction House.

Macro-Economics lesson.

Working the AH for copper prices involves the controlled buying and selling of two commodities. Copper ore and Copper bars. Both vary from 3 gold for a stack of 20 to 90 silver for a stack.

How do maximize your profit? Buy Low and sell high. More correctly, WHEN to place your auction determines how much profit you're going to make almost as what you're selling. If everyone has Scalping Tomahawks of Stamina ( lv5 newbie Axe ), you don't want to set a high price for yours. Actually, that prompts me to WAIT and try to sell the axe later. If no one is selling a similar item, and I have an open market, I can set my price MUCH higher. How high? Remember, asking 15g for a green newbie axe is insulting. Asking 75s when you control the market is not un-reasonable. You have to get a feel for how deep you can gouge your customer while still giving the illusion of offering him a deeal.

You must present to the buyer a deal below your competitors but not too far below to cut into your profits. If the lowest 20 stack of Copper bars is 1g 95s. I'd sell two stacks mine for 1g 90. You're still making almost 2g on 5 minutes of mining. The rough stone only sells for 10s to 15s a stack, but that adds up over time as well.

Price fixing. If I find a single person selling 3 Copper bars for 2s. I'll buy it. Why? Because it gets that price out of the auction house and I can sell that 3 copper as part of a larger stack for alot more ( 2g per 20 median price ). Only price fix the ridiculously low auctions. If everyone is selling copper at a low price, but it's not stupidly cheap, walk away from the AH. They will sell off their 120 stacks for 50s. The buyers will be happy. The sellers will make a tiny margin. Then the AH will clear itself out a day or two. Come back later and re-set the price.

The cycle. When there's no copper on the AH, the price soars up from 1g per stack up to 3g per stack. I like to sell around 2g. If you're at the bottom of a cycle, WAIT. Put your 2g stack up later. The AH deposits cost a couple silver. In the middle of the night, some dude is gonna NEED NEED some copper and your 2g stack is going to be the only one left to buy.

Always gather. If there's a glut of 90 people selling copper stacks for 50s each, it's time to gather. Return a bit later, and the cycle is going to swing up. Eventually, the cheap sellers will be out of copper. You just got back with armloads of ore. You can come in and set the price. The buyers will come back and find only your product is for sale at YOUR price. The other miners are out there collecting. You win. You may only sell of a single stack, but you make 2g for 20 while they're slitting their own throats for alot less.

After a couple of auctions, I found myself sitting on 12g. Comparatively, you're a billionaire when comparing yourself to the other level 10 newbies. At level 16 I had 20g. At level 18, I'm sitting on 30g with a full green suit of mostly Eagle / Stamina gear. Some of it enchanted and all of it with Armor kits. I have a bank stocked with copper and a good deal of gear I've sent to the other alts on my account to bolster them up.

In three days, I've gone from pauper to prince.

Take THAT, Billy Mays!@!#!!

Level 1-5 Blood Elf

Don't BLINK. It's over that fast.

Why write about it? Because I can.

By the time you're done reading about this guide...
You could have levelled from 1-5 as a new Blood Elf.

If you're new to WoW...
If you're just learning the interface and controls...
If you're a kid and still learning to read....

You'll take 10 minutes to grind thru the newbie area.

1) Almost nothing will aggro you until you attack it.
2) Don't bother twinking any gear, you'll find everything you need from drops/quests.
3) If you're mailing yourself anything, make it bags. Lots of cheap 6 slot bags.
4) Blood elves tap mana. Blood elves can AOE Silence in a small point-blank sphere.
Those powers are huge if you get into using them.
5) Those quests are ridiculously easy if you're a veteran WoW gamer.

Done reading?

DING. You're level 5. Go find Silvermoon City and your first class/profession trainers.

Lock Love

Icecrown. Big server. Laggy as hell. Plenty of infantile asshats.

Credits?

It's Horde side, so the player base is 1/5 the size and alot more mature.
My wife and kids have like five characters on both accounts on both sides.
That leaves room for two of my toons if I create a new character to level.
It's new to me. New is good.

So I made an Blood Elf Warlock and wanted to point him in the direction of Affliction.
They're scary kinda powerful. They have badass outfits. They enslave demons!

DAM those Affliction locks.

Almost as annoying as the Tier 5 Warrior with dedicated healer in a BG....
The team of two Affliction warlocks that dot you up fifteen ways from Sunday in a few seconds. By the time you realize you're being life-drained... you're already a dead man walking. An affliction lock can tag a squad of three with two dots each in exactly 6 seconds. Then AOE Fear and life-drain one of your buddies to death while seducing another. Nobody dishes out that kind of raw damage while sitting on 9k health. If Affliction locks can do that to a level 70 toon in a BG, you can guess what they can do to mobs in a PvE setting.

Low level...
They're not so powerful...
Not quite so evil...

But they have that POTENTIAL.

The Other Side

What do you do when your wife decides to roll up a Horde toon on another server?

1) Get a new wife?
2) Play on your old server and accumulate more gold/alts to 70/grind rep?
3) Join her on the Dark Side...

Why horde?

1) Don't play them much at all these days.
2) A new server would be a pleasant change
3) I'm filthy rich and it's good to be poor on a new server for a change.
4) I've never levelled a Blood Elf.
5) The PvP is better.
6) It's better to play WITH the wife than anywhere else.

Horde PVP

Honestly folks. I'm tired of always losing WSG.
With a good squad and some communication you can win AB.
You can win AV and probably EoTs. In the arena, its a dead tie.
WSG is a lost cause if you're alliance. No idea why the horde wins them all.
They just do. Case closed. Their premade 10 mans are just awesome.
